Day 8 post op

yesterday was so encouraging! Gracie was doing more things ‘on her own’ & seeming to get back to her old self. So much so I kept having to restrict her from jumping on everything. She has always been a jumper, hopping on all the furniture, leaping, whatever. But until she heals & gets the cone off I’m trying to keep her from such activity. She keeps trying tho…

anyway, this morning she yelped once & then became very restless & trying so hard to lick; the area that was definitely looking better yesterday is again red & raw looking today. I had already planned to drop her off at the vet for a few hours of boarding while I had to be away from the house today. I didn’t want a repeat of the other day when she pulled off the cone so I was going to drop her off on my way to my mtg then pick her up afterwards. I was a nervous wreck thinking the incision is opening up again due to the mast cell issue so had a vet look at her. The vet was quite reassuring, saying she thinks it looks very well w/in the norm & the raw looking area might just be because the scab was pulled off.

I’m going to try to figure out if there’s something soft I can put along the edge of the cone. When she’s trying to lick there’s a possibility the edge of the cone is hitting right where the incision is the most red/raw.

You might consider these cone of shame alternatives.

    Thanks for the update!

It’s good the vet saw the incision. Sounds like it’s doing well but yeah the key is to keep her away from the area. One member used a rolled up towel around the neck in place of an e-collar but that might be too heavy for her. What about getting a baby outfit, you know those one-sie thingies? I wonder if that would work?

I’m glad she’s doing better! Maybe the reason she hasn’t gone outside on her own is that she’s afraid to try to squeeze through the doggy door with her cone on.
